Name: Beth Warren
Age: 51 in triathlon years
Occupation: Corporate Engineering Manager
Years doing triathlon? 7
First Triathlon? Keuka Sprint Triathlon in New York
Your favorite triathlon? Ironman Lake Placid, my favorite road race is the Boston Marathon
Meal the night before race? Pasta for longer races, nothing special for shorter.
Pre-Race Meal? Bagel
Race Nutrition? Infinit Go Far and Fig Newtons
Favorite motivational training song? None I don’t listen to music I like hearing birds and other noise around me when I’m out training
Favorite mantra? Always give it everything
Key Workout? Depends on the type of race I’m training for. I find that a run/bike/run/bike/run/bike/run makes me very strong. I come from a 35 year competitive running background so I tend to devote more time swimming and biking than running
Best Triathlon training or racing tip? Break up races into smaller sections and don’t worry about the next section until you get there, makes an Ironman less intimidating. Also, just enjoy each racing experience, they are all unique. Whenever I worry about a race as it gets close, Alan reminds me that they hay is in the barn – truer words have never been spoken.
Triathlon literature or other sources of information? USAT articles, LAVA, Runner’s World.
Who inspires you? All of my friends that do this will full schedules. And I admire my husband Alan who happens to do extremely well on minimalist training. All of us who tend to overtrain could really learn from him.
Future goal? I’m going back to Boston this year for the first time since I ran it during the bombing. I’d like to do my 4th Ironman, but work travel keeps that goal on the back burner for now. I’m considering a marathon in China at the end of this year, stay tuned!
