Name: Kara Davis
Age: 30
Occupation: Registered Nurse

Years doing triathlon? This is my second year

First Triathlon? Sprint: Nat Greene’s Triathlon… IM70.3: North Carolina

Your favorite triathlon? Hard to pick a favorite. I enjoyed the Trivium multisport series this year. The races are organized and I love racing in our hometown.

Meal the night before race? Best laid plans, I try to eat something low fiber, low residual, non-meat protein… but 9x/10 I end up eating whatever is left over on my kid’s plates.

Pre-Race Meal? Toast with peanut butter or oatmeal…always COFFEE

Race Nutrition? I try to train and race with “real food,” as much as possible. I carry macro bars, potatoes (lol), bloc chews, or an occasional PayDay while biking. I usually do just water or a gel (not my favorite) while running. I started using BreakThru nutrition for hydration this year too with good result.

Favorite motivational training song? Not sure, my running playlist is all over the place and a little overwhelming.

Favorite mantra? “Form… breathe… you got this”

Key Workout? 2+ hour bike outdoors (practice nutrition/hydration technique) … “long,” (10+ mile) run

Best Triathlon training or racing tip? You can always learn new things. A lot can be gained through observation and listening. I enjoy attending the monthly meetings and catching up with team members about their races and what worked (what didn’t) and their past experiences. Also, I find it’s important to find time to get in training like you would race. Getting outside and cycling, running at race pace without headphones/music, open water swimming… etc.

Triathlon literature or other sources of information? Social media has become a surprising resource/outlet. I follow professional triathletes and organizations on Instagram and a few Facebook groups including ‘Women for Tri.’ For me, it takes the distance away from athletes and races and makes goals seem more attainable. I enjoy viewing and reading about training done by ‘real people.’ I also enjoyed the book “Roar,” by Stacey Sims.

Who inspires you? Everyone who makes it out for training and racing! Seeing athletes of all different backgrounds, beliefs, shapes, sizes, experience stepping outside of their comfort zone and pushing themselves towards a common goal is so inspiring.

Future goal or bucket list race? IM Mont-Tremblant 2021
